6.3.1 Prefer singular agreement for collective nouns

When using "management," "company," "staff," or other such collective nouns, use singular verb agreement. That is the U.S. convention. Furthermore, if these are in singular agreement, any pronouns referring to them should be singular, as in "The company treats its employees well," not "their employees."
