6.1.1 Apostrophes

  1. Use apostrophes to show possession.
  2. Use 's to show possession by a singular noun.
  3. Use s' to show possession by a plural noun.
  4. Use apostrophes to signal a contraction such as it's meaning it is, you're meaning you are, they're meaning they are, or who's meaning who is.
  5. Use no apostrophes in possessive pronouns such as its, your, their, or whose.
  6. Use an apostrophe to signal certain odd plurals: numerals, abbreviations, single letters, and some acronyms.
