11.4 Write active-voice verbs

In active-voice verbs, the subject does the action, as in "The company produces software." The company (the subject) does that producing. In passive-voice verbs, the subject is acted upon, as in "Software is produced by the company."

You can spot passive-voice verbs easily by seeing that they are made up of some form of the verb to be connected to an -ed form, called a past participle.

The active is more confident, more direct, and immeasurably more clear than the passive. Eight out of ten of your sentences should be in the active-voice.
